BIOLOGY AND CONTROL OF URBAN PESTS

MANUAL OF PESTS IN STORED GRAINS, MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL

TERMITES AND OTHER XYLOPHAGUS INSECTS IN CHILE:

This 355-page book develops topics related to the ecology and biology of urban pests, the risks in their environmental management, control and anti-vector intervention strategy in urban areas.

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT®) (www.cimmyt.org) is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to scientific research and training related to maize and wheat in developing countries. Based on the strength of our science and our collaborative partnerships, we generate, share and apply knowledge and technologies with the aim of increasing food security, improving the productivity and profitability of agricultural production systems, and conserving natural resources.

This publication constitutes an important contribution to the knowledge of the species of xylophagous insects present in Chile, their main biological characteristics and some practical recommendations to manage or control them when required. The text and the keys that allow the identification of the different species are deeply illustrated with excellent drawings and photographs that complement the complete morphological descriptions of the insects, biological cycles and damage they cause to buildings and other substrates that they use as food.

TERMITE EXPERT

Naturalist professionals with more than 40 years of experience, concerned about man's loss of contact with his natural environment, with the desire to bring forgotten nature closer to all those who know how to appreciate it, created INSECTPARK. Since 1965 they have been developing activities to study insects and other arthropods of the world's fauna. His knowledge and the collection of materials and species during this time have made possible the formation of a private scientific collection of more than 70,000 species of insects from all over the world, now serving as an exhibition fund and scientific consultation.

David Mora del Pozo has been immersed in the exciting world of termites for 20 years, and certainly not a day goes by that they fail to surprise him. Each colony of termites has its own 'personality', so apart from the four factors that identify them in their habits, when push comes to shove, they do what they want, how they want and when they want, which makes their work related to the study and control of these insects, a day to day full of challenges. In this blog he shares many of his experiences after dedicating many hours to the search (detection) of termites in the urban environment and in nature itself, and especially in his own house after observing them for a significant number of hours. All his work and conclusions in a place worth visiting.
